[ROLLIE] 50’s-60’s. Playing the father to Mark Little and Andrew Bush. The family patriarch, Rollie started The Museum Of The Strange And Fantastic from the ground up, adding oddities every year to reflect his ever-evolving “vision.” This vision is hard to explain, with the museum home to everything from caged raccoons to human skulls, cursed furniture, a tooth of the legendary “Beast” and an “ancient” toilet seat. Rollie’s a hard man to live with and has pushed a lot of people away, including his ex- wife, Margie. He spent almost 20 years alone before he met Ruth. Slowly, through her influence and his declining health, he’s softened – not a lot, but JUST enough to want a second chance with his sons. Rollie takes great pleasure in tormenting his two sons – but mostly Andy. He’s got a real soft spot for Mark, the little scamp. He just can’t handle Andy’s “airs.” Always walking around with those “airs,” trying to tell people how to live, what to do, which parts of their museum are technically “illegal.” Rollie’s resented this side of Andy since he was a kid and believes Andy gets it from his mother, the witch. But deep down (like deep, deep down), Rollie does care for those close to him, and now that he’s got his family back together, he’d like to keep it that way. In a sense, Rollie’s entire life is a push and pull between his selfish reclusive impulses and his carefully guarded “tender” side. Now that he’s surrounded by loved ones again, part of how he wants to push everyone away so he can be alone again, but a SLIGHTLY larger part of him wants this new family to stay together forever. Deep down, he loves his sons and he loves Ruth – but it would take a miracle to make him admit it. SERIES LEAD. *This role will be under Option. The number of Years to be determined at a later date**

[RUTH] 50’s-60’s. Ruth is a beacon of positivity. Deep down, she believes that everyone is pretty good and everything will work out for the best. If you ask her why she believes this, she’ll happily tell you that she lost her husband and child in a house fire 20 years ago and nothing can get worse than that. She’ll tell you this with a big smile on her face, as if she’s talking about the weather, and if you’re Andy, it will chill you to the bone. Ruth is, in a sense, a witch, though she wouldn’t describe herself as such (“I don’t think of myself as a witch, I just think I’m in touch with certain natural frequencies. And the other women in my coven would say likewise.”). She believes in runes and healing crystals and does have a “coven” she meets with monthly, although they mostly just drink wine and chat about their lives, like a book club. Ruth has always lived in Cavendish. She’s known Rollie since they were kids but only really started “dating” him 10 years ago. Since then, neither of them has ever made any effort to define or advance their relationship. In a small, unexpressed way, Ruth would like to do so, but she figures everything happens for a reason. She’s also reluctant to dive into any “formal” family situation again because, while the deaths of her husband and child gave her a positive outlook on life, they also scarred her deeply. So when she finally moves in with Rollie (in season one) and a small kitchen fire breaks out, she’ll become convinced that the universe wants her to stay away. This will force Ruth to confront her past trauma in a way she never has. It will be uncomfortable. Ruth believes in love languages, reads self-help books, makes her own tarot cards and sells tinctures out of the museum gift shop, the herbs for which she buys from Molly. She’s also into past lives and believes she was once a hunter in feudal Japan. When Rollie is laid up at the hospital, Ruth offers to supplement the doctors’ “traditional surgery methods” with her “more gem-based approach.” She’s not confrontational about it – she just thinks both approaches are valid. She also thinks that sometimes, if you want something, you just need to get a group of nice ladies to draw a pentagram around a snake and see what happens. [MOLLY] Mid 30’s. Molly is a local farmer who sells her wares (mostly potatoes and potato-based snacks)at a roadside stand and various farmers’ markets around town. A single mother, she’s self-sufficient, providing for her son, Jacob, with a protectiveness that borders on mania. Jacob’s dad was a deadbeat (or as Molly describes him, “a very bad man”) who burned through Molly’s store of trust in her fellow humans; ever since he left, she’s sworn off the help of others, preferring to do things her way, come hell or high water. Molly grows the herbs that Ruth uses in her tinctures, which brings her by the museum occasionally. Ruth is one of the few people Molly feels really comfortable around, Ruth being so deeply sweet. Ruth is constantly encouraging Molly to join her coven, but Molly’s not sure; that many people asking you questions and nosing into your business seems like a recipe for disaster. Molly likes to farm and hunt and be outdoors, but she is fundamentally risk-averse, in part because she knows if she were out of commission, her son would be boned, and in part because her family has a curse on it. At least, that’s the local legend. Molly comes from a long line of cursed farmers who, whenever they have tried to do anything bigger than simple, humble farming, have failed in humiliating fashion. Molly herself would love to sell her non-denominational potato latkes in supermarkets around the world, but she’s terrified by the idea of starting a business. A risk that big could bankrupt her and with her family history, it almost certainly would. As the season goes on, Molly will start to let more people into her life – namely, Mark and Andy. With encouragement from them, she’ll nudge toward her business dreams, briefly join Ruth’s coven, and even go on her first date in ages. Of course, to Andy’s dismay, it will be with someone else – the disgustingly nice and perfect hardware store owner, Jet. SERIES LEAD (THIS ROLE WILL NOT BE UNDER OPTION)

[BRYN] 16 - 22 years old. As Ruth’s niece, Bryn is around the museum a lot working the admissions desk and often popping up unannounced in conversations to offer her dreary deadpan perspectives. She's an anti-Anne and being a girl of few words or outward emotions, it's often hard to tell what she's really thinking. But underneath the quiet exterior lies a 16 year old teen with raging hormones. This all comes out in a sketch book she keeps that's filled with drawings of dragons and wolves with muscles and boners. It's a sketchbook she doesn't seem to guard too closely either as Mark and Andy often come across it, much to their dismay. Think Eyore if he was a 16 year old girl in rural PEI with raging hormones. [MAYOR HELEN DRURY] 40’s. Helen is the mayor of Cavendish. She also runs the local diner, City Hall Diner. Since there’s no official City Hall in town, most of the official government meetings happen at the diner after hours. Helen loves Cavendish. She’s an eighth-generation mayor, which might seem like nepotism but only because it is. Helen’s number one goal is to protect her people from the insidious outside world. She wants to “Keep Cavendish Cavendish!” as she says. She loves throwing festivals and barn dances and anything else to increase civic pride. She also has a one-sided rivalry with Charlottetown, despising their “big city” ways and their mayor, who comes around once a year to make Helen feel small. Helen feels the same warmth toward Mark and Andy that she feels for anyone who chooses her small community. But if they ever betray her trust, she’ll turn on them so fast their heads will spin. Then she’ll apologize because that’s the Cavendish way. Mayor Drury is occasionally forced to worry about things like the waning tourism industry or the increase in “mysterious disappearances,” but by and large, she is a happy-go-lucky mayor who’s just proud to have the best job in the world! [OFFICER GIBBONS] Male or Female. 30’s-40’s. The ineffectual, de facto police chief of Cavendish, Officer Gibbons is more concerned about town tradition than upholding the “actual law.” He/She’s the Costello to Mayor Drury’s Abbot – a sidekick who shares her belief that towns should take care of their own business without outsiders meddling in their affairs. He/She has a motto: “What happens in Cavendish, stays in Cavendish”. It’s a motto he/she made up themselves. He/She also believes in letting people resolve their own differences wherever possible. Sometimes people just need to fight things out! And sometimes, the best recourse for an “attempted murder” is for the two parties to shake hands. It may not be classic police work, but it’s worked so far. RECURRING (This role will not be under Option)

[FELIX] 30’s. Nobody really knows where Felix came from. Cavendish’s resident barfly speaks almost exclusively in grumbles and keeps to himself, though sometimes Mark enlists his help for schemes for the low price of “some beer.” Felix is easygoing and quick to forgive – even when someone (Andy) tries to murder him. He has no real ambitions to speak of. He knows more about Cavendish than anyone and he’ll tell you whatever you want to know, in his own way, if you ask. But mostly he just sits by himself and drinks. Mark thinks he’s awesome. RECURRING (This role will not be under Option)
