CASTING NOTICE:

EMERALD CODE

In high school, your world opens up – you find out what you love and what makes you who you really are. If you’re 15-year-old SIMONE, what you love is just about everything, and the challenge is fitting it all in. Luckily, she has an app for that, and for just about everything else.

We are currently searching across the GTA for 2 ROLES!

[BEVAN]FEMALE. 14 years. All Ethnicities. Bevan is super peppy and excitable! She’s prone to emotional extremes, and everything is either the best thing in the world or the worst thing in the world. Or both at once. She loves to solve puzzles. She likes all kinds of games, but she’s really into Virtual Reality and live escape rooms, and she’s working on a game that takes place in an alternate version of her school that combines these two ideas... and it’s amazing. Bevan loves languages, which is why the language of coding is such a natural fit for her. Bevan is fascinated with gymnastics. She goes to as many competitions as possible and tracks the moves of all the participants. She is sure that she can create a program that will help a gymnast perfect their vault take-off or layout landing if she shows them mathematically how it can be done. N.B. – “Emerald Code” actively encourages performers who self-identify as physically challenged for the above role. RECURRING.

***Must be a Canadian Citizen and a Toronto local in order to be considered***

[JACKSON]MALE. 14 years. All Ethnicities. Jackson’s the kind of kid who takes laughing and comedy very, very seriously. He loves to laugh and finds all kinds of ways to make jokes out of just about anything, especially if it’s digital and visual. Jackson creates filters that pop up on Google Hangouts with his friends, photoshopping himself into his group’s PowerPoint on Belize, and creating tiny, ridiculous figures or silly robots just to make people laugh. Jackson always seems to owe a favour to one of his (unseen) brothers, and is the kind of kid who always drives his friends crazy—or would, if he wasn’t making them laugh so often. In fact, Jackson’s determination that there are laughs to be found everywhere can be a source of frustration to Simone and Lana when they want to get serious—but he can be a great resource when they’re stuck on a coding challenge, because he’s so creative, he’ll do the wrong thing just to see if it gives him an idea of the right thing... or maybe an idea for another great joke. SYNOPSIS: In high school, your world opens up – you find out what you love and what makes you who you really are. If you’re 15-year-old SIMONE, what you love is just about everything, and the challenge is fitting it all in. Luckily, she has an app for that, and for just about everything else.

As Simone and her friends, LANA, BEVAN and JACKSON navigate their lives at Rowat High School, they use coding, robotics, and technology of all kinds to make their lives easier, more connected, and way more fun. Which is especially important since high school only ever gets more complicated. When school or crushes or friendships get too stressful, Simone and her friends sometimes slip into gaming maven Bevan’s virtual reality – one she’s designed to take place within the halls of their school, with characters who are kind of like their friends and classmates, but not quite. As they play out scenarios that are happening in real life, in a special hyper-reality we can see onscreen, they can explore problems and tricky situations, helping them figure out what’s the best move to help them ‘level up’, because Simone always has her eye on the prize, and she’s ready to crack the code on an awesome high school life.
